Project Description
This thoughtfully designed tea stall seamlessly blends comfort, sustainability, and community engagement. The location of the stall is in the middle of Dhai Bazar, in a local lane, behind ever care hospital, Bashundhara r/a, Dhaka. The site was narrow but long enough to implement many features.
The stall features a spacious seating area with a mix of wooden benches, and foldable table to ensure a cozy atmosphere. The space is semi-open having two windows which allows natural ventilation, and with a transparent fiber-tin roof allows ample sunlight during the day while providing shelter from rain.
Shelves, crafted from upcycled wood and metal, line the stall’s walls, which plays huge role in storing items, neatly displaying tea varieties, snacks, newspapers and thrifted books for customers to which encourages reading culture. A mounted TV serves as an information hub, broadcasting community news, entertainment, and educational content. This fosters engagement among visitors and strengthens the neighborhood’s sense of connection. The stall also serves betel leaves and cigarettes, catering to a wider customer base.
Sustainability is at the heart of the stall’s design. A simple rainwater harvesting system, consisting of a sloped roof from where the rainwater will flow into the vegetation attached outside the stall in half bamboo frames. A corner engages visitors in making paper packets from old newspapers, reducing plastic waste while fostering participation.
With a thoughtful layout and community-focused features, this tea stall becomes more than just a refreshment spot—it transforms into a vibrant, eco-friendly community hub where people gather, and interact.
