Project Description
The design concept centers on creating a functional yet visually striking tea stall that integrates traditional elements with modern architectural features to foster community interaction. The structure’s main semicircular form is ergonomically designed to serve individuals efficiently, with circulation directed by the functional arrangement of elements. This layout minimizes crowd congestion and ensures a smooth process for tea service, from collection to returning the cup. A separate smoking area is placed at the back of the stall to segregate smoker and non-smoker groups, with an innovative smoke-trapping system using foam sheets and exhaust fans to minimize environmental contamination.
The modular panel system used in the design reduces both construction cost and time, making the structure adaptable to various locations worldwide. Traditional Maratha elements from Pune’s Wada structures inspire the aesthetic, seamlessly blending with contemporary materials and techniques for a contextual and functional design. The roof is made of stretched tensile fabric, providing strength, durability, and flexibility, with the option to retract, creating a visually lightweight structure.
By merging traditional aesthetics with modern functionality, the design creates a compact and versatile space suitable for any environment. The approach not only meets the practical needs of a tea stall but also celebrates cultural heritage, enhancing the overall user experience while respecting the surrounding environment.
