Project Description

This project, Utsorgo,is a dedicated to Sylhet's tea workers (Cha Shromik), weaving their history, labor and culture into a building form. The woven bamboo tea basket, a silent witness to their toil, transforms from a tool of labor into a symbolic structure, embodying the resilience and heritage of the workers.

Drawing inspiration from their daily struggles, folklore, and communal spirit, the stall becomes a living sculpture—a tactile experience of woven textures, earthy tones, and organic materials like bamboo, earth, and wood. The elevated structure, perched like a suspended basket, mirrors the precarious balance of a tea worker's life, while a tree piercing through the space echoes the deep-rooted bond between the land and its people.

A small helping box is placed within the stall, encouraging visitors to contribute to the Cha Shromik community, making it not just a stall but a platform for support and solidarity. Though Utsorgo can be placed anywhere in Bangladesh, its essence remains a tribute to the unseen labor behind every cup of tea.

This is more than a tea stall; it is a spatial poetry, where every woven surface and every bamboo joint tells the untold stories of Cha Shromik and their songs, their struggles, and their enduring connection to the rolling green fields of Sylhet.
