Project Description
The Designed tea stall respects Bangladesh's rich cultural heritage, inspired from the historic "TONG" Structure commonly seen around all urban and rural gathering spaces. My idea was to create a community space where people can enjoy the delicacies of TEA culture and also take a break from there mundane urban life and breath in a gulp of fresh air where they can share their stories, debate in both trivial and important matters.
The aesthetics will draw inspiration from classic tong shapes, employing local and recycled material such as recycled metal bars, corrugated metal sheets, plastic drums as seating, and such. The open seating area will encourage interaction without shutting out the natural flow of air. The stools made with recycled plastic drums which low to the ground will be incorporated into the area, reminiscent of the old roadside tea stalls of village and city.
Traditional craftsmanship will be utilized in the form of handprinted Rickshaw Painting. The stall color scheme will include vibrant tones evoking rural Bangladesh with flashes of colorful hand-painted signs and folk motifs.
Functionally, the space will have a short and modular tea preparation area, a more extended seating arrangement for groups, and a corner serving newspaper and current affairs in recycled PVC pipes. Sustainability is the theme of the design as it minimizes resource consumption while allowing maximum cultural expression.
This tea stall shall not only be a place for refreshment but a "Living representation of Bangladesh's social, cultural, and architectural identity", a place where people will develop a welcoming atmosphere for endless conversations as "CHA ER ADDA"
