Project Description
Our project draws inspiration from the iconic dhopkol of Rajshahi - not just a traditional water pump but a symbol of human connection, rhythm, and flow. Historically, the dhopkol gathered people around a shared resource, creating spontaneous interactions and a sense of community.
In our design, this concept comes alive through a circular form, mirroring the continuous motion of the dhopkol's handle. The central counter serves as both a focal point and a meeting place, encouraging engagement and conversation. The roof structure, inspired by the radial movement of the dhopkol, embodies openness while using air-purifying, rain-resistant materials to ensure sustainability and comfort.
Locally sourced materials and earthy tones ground the space in Rajshahi's cultural heritage, while fluid patterns echo the flow of water - and ideas. The design fosters flexibility with modular seating, allowing visitors to gather, shift, and interact freely, much like the organic human flow seen around the dhopkol.
This tea stall is more than a place to sip tea - it's a living dialogue between tradition and modernity. It reflects how simple, familiar objects like the dhopkol hold deeper cultural meanings, uniting people through shared experiences. Through this project, we honor the spirit of Rajshahi's dhopkol - keeping the pulse of community and creativity alive.
