Project Description
At times of high tide or unfavorable fishing conditions, a large number of boats are rendered temporarily unusable. The TaariCHAI is a modular assemblage designed with the intention to keep deserted fisherman's boats in use during downtime. Crafted primarily from durable mango wood, the module collapses into a set of pieces that can be fit into a compact storage box, and just as quickly be unpacked and assembled without making any permanent inflictions to a boat.
The module combines a small assortment of members. The lightweight wooden slab that rests atop the width of the boat creates ample space for a stove, tea-making essentials, and storage for cups and other supplies. A collapsible mango wood frame is included, that can be used to support a fabric canopy to provide shelter for users, and personal wooden stools or foldable seating can be secured to hooks on the perimeter of the boat. For nighttime use, the module includes slots for lanterns or LED lights.
This dual approach can help to maximize the fisherman's livelihood, turning idle hours into an opportunity for income generation and social interactions.
