Project Description

Tea is an essential part of our life and culture that brings people together in joy, conversation, and sorrow as well. In a busy urban area, like Dholaikhal, a mobile tea stall offers a dynamic activity, inspired by the area's rich metalworking heritage and transportation culture.

This stall is made of a 20'x8'x8.5’ recycled container, which is modular, mobile, and sustainable. It can travel between different neighborhoods, promoting cultures and strengthening bonds. The foldable design maximizes functionality, requiring minimal space like folded tables, benches, and stools for efficient storage.

Lengthwise enclosure serves as an exhibition wall, displaying artwork, cultural expressions, or promotional content. Functional features are a small kitchen, storage shelves, and a toilet. The counter extends outward with seating having an operable shading. This also helps in the ventilation and smoke management of the stove. Natural light is ensured through slit glass panels on the other side.

Sustainability is the primary focus. For this, reusable crockery and a water purifier are used to cut down on waste like plastic cups and water bottles, and sufficient dustbins are placed to maintain cleanliness. Solar panel on the rooftop helps generate energy. Hanging greenery enhances air quality and contributes to the environment.

Locally sourced recycled metals enhance Dholaikhal’s craftsmanship in the design, supporting local artisans and showcasing their work in different areas. The design ensures accessibility for all individuals, ensuring social interaction across all backgrounds. This tea stall is more than just a place to grab a cup of tea and spill tea, it’s a moving cultural hub that strengthens the community while celebrating local art, sustainability, and experiences.
