Project Description
Pauses in Motion: A Modular Tea Stall for Urban Pockets
In the dense cities, where buildings rise abruptly, the spaces in between tell their own stories-narrow setbacks, forgotten alleys, and silent urban voids. Within these gaps, we reimagine the tea stall-not an obstruction, a gentle insertion into the city's pulse.
The tong has always been more than a tea stall; it is a sanctuary-a 5-minute escape from the city's relentless rhythm, where hands curl around steaming cups, conversations bloom, and strangers become neighbors. Yet, urbanization threatens these spaces, replacing them with sterile, towering coffee shops. Within it is the soul of communal gathering.
A modular adaptable tong, crafted from locally available materials (1.5'x3' ms bars, wood slabs for seating, plastic transparent sheets and tin roof), retrofits into these voids, breathing life. Being compact and adjustable, it embraces the constraints of the city offering warmth and pause. It does not disrupt circulation; it integrates.
This module can create various spatial characteristics in a variety of organizations among urban pockets. Open areas next to a highway, a gap in a crowded city market, or tiny areas. in our daily lives. Structures and frames are made with locally accessible materials that require little more than a screwdriver to assemble and disassemble.
The closest supply pipes provide the water, and the leftover tea waste can be used as fertilizer for indoor plants. The waste is also utilized as gray water for plants. Such treated soil and plants could stimulate collaborative hobbies and balcony/roof gardening among neighbors.
