Project Description
We chose a real site of a popular tea stall named Roni Tea Stall, in Pabna. This is situated in a prominent place near the central bus terminal of Pabna city, and the special malai tea of Roni mama, the stall owner, made the stall very popular.
We named it ‘Harghe Chaa Darbar’ according to a dialect meaning ‘Our tea court’ ; since this tea stall serves as a mini social courtroom traditionally. Various people come here, mostly students and bus workers or laborers. Many of them smoke in the stall so we designed a semi outdoor smoking zone in the west with a connecting door and some hanging green plants so that the cigarette smell does not come inside the stall and passes out with the air flow coming from east. There is a mud made stove and a sitting place inside. A non-smoking semi outdoor and outdoor sitting space is provided in the south side. In summer people can enjoy the southern air and in winter it would be comfortable because of the soft sun heat. Inside the stall there is a window on the north with creeper plants. The walls and roof of the stall are made with vernacular materials such as bamboo, timber etc. The east side has large openings. There are creeper plants planted in the bamboo cuttings on the walls which is also serving as a partition for the smoking zone.
