Project Description
In the bustling city of Dhaka, finding time to connect with neighbors and communities is a challenge. Despite living close, interactions are often limited to brief encounters in elevators or parking lots. The sense of community is fading as busy lives leave little room for meaningful connections. However, tea, a beloved tradition in our culture, offers a moment of pause and an opportunity to bond. Imagine sharing a cup of tea with your neighbor at a convenient spot and connecting with your community. Unfortunately, finding a tea stall near home is difficult because most are located in busy areas, contributing to overcrowding and traffic jams, especially during morning rush hours. These stalls often remain on the roads even when closed, making the space unattractive and problematic for customers and commuters alike.
Our design, "Connec(tea)vity," addresses these issues by tackling overcrowding and traffic jams caused by tea stalls in busy areas, tea stalls blocking roads even when closed, lack of convenient tea stalls near residential areas, fading sense of community due to busy lifestyles, and poor time management of tea stall operations, causing space issues during rush hours. The proposed design is based on the context of Mohammadpur Aurangzeb Road but can be similarly applied to any area with a 12-foot pedestrian path or front yard of apartment areas. This modular system can be set up in transitional spaces and residential areas, utilizing apartment front yards. Vendors can secure agreements with landlords or local authorities to use these spaces.
The bamboo structure allows vendors to store their equipment securely and slide the stall up when not in use, freeing up pedestrian space. This design not only provides a place for neighbors to gather but also ensures that the space remains accessible and functional for everyone when the stalls are not in use. "Connec(tea)vity" aims to create a dynamic ecosystem that benefits both consumers and vendors, revitalizing community connections in the heart of the city.
