Project Description

Abstract:  Blending sustainability with a futuristic aesthetic, this unique takeaway tea stall is crafted from repurposed coconut shells and oil tin barrels, creating an eco-friendly yet visually striking structure. The shells are coated with glow paint, allowing the stall to stand out, especially at night, offering a vibrant and inviting ambiance. Designed for convenience and adaptability, the stall is easily dismantled, making it a perfect solution for pop-up locations and mobile setups. Its compact and modular structure ensures minimal environmental impact while maintaining a strong visual identity. This tea stall is not just a functional space—it’s a statement in sustainable architecture, proving that innovation and tradition can go hand in hand.

Concept inspiration: Our idea was to incorporate the tea flavour essence into design and narrate a story. we experienced different kinds of tea and its ambience, we found that “bubble tea” was in trend among youngsters. Bubble Tea, also known as Boba Tea, is a popular Taiwanese drink that combines tea, milk, sweeteners, and chewy tapioca pearls or other toppings. Originating in Taiwan in the 1980s, it has grown into a global phenomenon, loved for its unique textures, refreshing Flavors, and customizable options. Hence, we translated the same into design. The key take away was its unique texture/patterns, colours, trend, style and customisable options.

Design & Structure: The stall boasts a sleek, minimalistic design with a curved, illuminated serving window that enhances its modern appeal. The entire façade is composed of coconut shells arranged meticulously, forming a textured and organic surface that provides both durability and aesthetic charm. These shells are painted with glow paint, allowing the stall to emit a soft, futuristic glow, making it stand out in any urban or natural setting. The stall's modular construction ensures that it can be easily dismantled and reassembled, making it ideal for temporary setups, pop-up markets, and mobile business models. This adaptability aligns with sustainable urban planning and reduces waste while maintaining high visual appeal.

Sustainability & Eco-Friendliness: Coco-lume is a testament to green architecture and upcycling. By repurposing coconut shells—an abundant natural byproduct and tin barrels —the stall significantly reduces waste while promoting sustainable construction. The glow paint used is energy-efficient, eliminating the need for excessive electrical lighting. Additionally, a solar panel is mounted on the roof, further enhancing the stall's self-sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.

Lighting & Visual Appeal A striking feature of Coco-Tea is its integrated LED and glow-paint illumination, which creates an ethereal, futuristic effect. The glowing outline around the serving window not only highlights the design but also acts as an inviting element, drawing customers in. The carefully placed ambient lighting enhances visibility while adding a sophisticated touch to the overall aesthetic.

Functionality & Convenience • Takeaway Focus: The stall is designed primarily for quick service and takeaway, catering to urban commuters and passersby. • Compact & Modular: The design ensures easy transportation and setup in different locations. • Storage & Efficiency: Interior shelving and storage spaces are built into the structure, ensuring functionality without compromising design.

Conclusion: Coco-lume is more than just a tea stall—it is an architectural statement that redefines sustainability, functionality, and futuristic design. Its innovative use of natural materials, energy-efficient lighting, and modular adaptability make it an ideal model for eco-conscious businesses. Whether positioned in a bustling cityscape or a serene outdoor setting, Coco-Tea radiates a unique charm that captivates and inspires.
