Project Description
Cinema and tea hold a special place in Bengali culture, and our tea stall design aims to blend these two cherished elements into an immersive experience. This innovative tea stall pays homage to the golden era of Bengali cinema, offering a space where customers can enjoy their tea while reliving the magic of classic films.
The site chosen for this project is the Muktamanch of Suhrawardy Udyan behind TSC, Dhaka University. This location is famous for its amphitheater, where people can enjoy tea while watching drama and performances, adding another layer of cultural richness to the experience.
The tea stall is divided into four thematic modules, each celebrating a different cinematic aspect. The first module is the core tea stall, providing a warm and inviting ambiance through fabric painting art. The second module is dedicated to Satyajit Ray's legendary film "Pather Panchali," where visitors can sip tea while surrounded by visuals from the film and books by Ray and other literary figures through the reading zone. The third module is inspired by "Chander Pahar," designed with an open roof to create an adventurous atmosphere under the vast sky. This space is adorned with posters from the film, enhancing the sense of exploration. The fourth module transports visitors to the black-and-white era of Bengali cinema, featuring tributes to Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. Interplay of light and shadow and a vintage radio playing old Bengali songs adds to the nostalgic charm.
The structure is built using a timber frame with waterproof rexine fabric, with an alternative option of bamboo for sustainability. Eco-friendly choices like clay and bamboo cups further enhance the stall's environmental consciousness. This modular tea stall is adaptable, allowing for customization based on space and business needs, making it a unique cultural and cinematic retreat for tea lovers.
