Project Description

Tea stalls or more commonly known as "Tong" in Bangla, are one of the most organic, sporadic elements of the urban and rural fabric in Bangladesh. Brimming with a deep-rooted sense of community, these humble stalls are more than just a place for a cup of tea. They serve as a hub for interactions with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds fostering discussions ranging from politics to daily gossip. One of the unique features of these stalls is their temporality with either materials, placements or structure. They are also highly ergonomic- functioning efficiently in a small space yet serving its purpose. Keeping these key essence of a tea stall in mind, our vision focuses on a sustainable design fostering portability, climate sensitivity, solar energy fueled features, structural flexibility and all the while providing top notch functionality. The stainless-steel structure on wheels provides mobility so it can be placed anywhere. Another feature includes a retractable shading structure to provide shelter from the scorching sun or rain with waterproof polyester fabric in gamcha pattern for a touch of traditional aesthetics. The design serves a minimal space with various portable and foldable seating arrangements that can be stored away if necessary. Promoting zero waste, there's a natural water filtration system under the sink to reuse water for washing, plant-watering or for the stray animals. The lights, fan and the signage is fueled from the solar panel on the roof and there's an option to grow mint, tulsi etc to use in the teas.
