Project Description
The tea stall is envisioned as more than just a place to drink tea; it serves as a "mental escape" in the bustling chaos of a city like Dhaka. It is a space for people to unwind, socialize, and engage in conversations ranging from light-hearted chats to deep discussions about politics and culture, all while enjoying a good cup of tea.
The design prioritizes creating a low-cost, flexible, and community-oriented space using recyclable materials such as corrugated sheets, bamboo, and reclaimed window frames. These materials contribute to both affordability and sustainability while creating a structure that encourages interaction.
Vertical covers made of tarpaulin, attached to bamboo frames, can be rolled up like curtains to open up the space or used as shades for sun and rain protection. For seating, the design incorporates pull-out benches seamlessly extending from the kitchen counter, maximizing space and functionality. In many tea stalls, seating is often limited, and benches are typically placed outside. During rain, people crowd these areas due to the lack of indoor seating. The pull-out bench integrated into the countertop provides a practical solution, as it can be extended to accommodate more people efficiently when needed.
The central layout creates an interactive environment around the stall, fostering a sense of community. Multifunctional features, such as the pull-out benches and the canopy, enhance the design's efficiency, making it an innovative approach to a traditional space.
