Project Description

Concept Overview

Bokro is a modular tea pavilion designed to integrate with Old Dhaka's cultural heritage while enhancing the tea-drinking experience. Located in Old Dhaka, it fosters social interactions, showcases traditions, and adapts to users' needs.

Spatial Configuration & Modularity

The structure includes a flexible ergonomic seating area and functional shelves for the tea maker, with extendable modular shelves that transform into seating zones. These pivoting shelves function as seating, display units for cultural artifacts, and food stalls, forming fluid convex and concave shapes for adaptable spaces.

Dynamic Social Spaces

Adaptive Seating & Gossip Nooks: The flexible layout creates cozy corners and open social zones.

Interactive Cultural Engagement: Visitors can craft tea cups, create art, and participate in performances.

Inclusive Design: Thoughtfully structured for all ages and genders, ensuring accessibility and comfort.

Climate Responsiveness: Expandable canopies provide shelter from sun and rain.

Contextual Adaptability: The modular framework allows for installation in various settings requiring seasonal expansion and cultural interaction.

Cultural Integration & Heritage Revival: Bokro celebrates Old Dhaka's tea culture and heritage, blending architectural innovation with tradition. It serves as a prototype for urban revitalization, fostering cultural continuity and social enrichment.

Bokro is more than a tea stall—it's an immersive cultural experience and a contemporary reinterpretation of a timeless ritual.
