Project Description
Situated in the vibrant heart of Mohammadpur Town Hall, Boithak is more than just a tea stall—it is a cultural landmark that blends tradition with sustainability. Inspired by the nostalgic charm of a Bengali “cha-er dokan”, this modular structure reimagines a humble tea cart into a multifunctional, eco-conscious, and community-driven space.
The stall’s modular design features adaptive panels that serve as counters and security shutters, allowing flexibility in function and ensuring protection after hours. These reconfigurable elements create a dynamic and engaging retail experience. Thoughtful waste management is integrated into the design, with dedicated sections for cigarette waste, plastic, and paper, promoting responsible disposal.
Built from MS bars and found materials, Boithak embraces sustainability while honoring local craftsmanship. The shop replaces plastic with bamboo, wood, and clay cups, encouraging an eco-friendly tea culture. Jute-crafted ventilators enhance airflow, keeping the space naturally cool while highlighting indigenous artistry.
A key aesthetic feature of Boithak is the incorporation of Alpona—intricate, hand-painted Bengali folk art—on its facade, panels, and countertops. Flowing white floral motifs over earthy terracotta tones create a visually striking identity, reinforcing its deep cultural roots.
Nestled beneath a tree, Boithak seamlessly integrates into its urban surroundings, benefiting from natural shade while coexisting with nearby vendors. With its fusion of modular adaptability, sustainability, and cultural expression, Boithak is a prototype for modern yet deeply traditional Bengali tea stalls, celebrating the essence of adda and community gathering.
