Project Description

Tong is not just a regular tea shop: it is a hub of ideas, where people from all walks of life come together, regardless of religion or social status. In Bengali culture, there's a saying, -চায়রে কাপে ঝড়" referring to heated debates or brainstorming sessions over a cup of tea. These tea stalls have long been spaces for sharing thoughts, laughter, and stories. In the Bengali lifestyle, people naturally gravitate toward a tong to spend time with friends or loved ones. A tong is part of daily life, whether it's early morning political discussions, midday escapes, or evening gatherings. It connects people, fosters community, and preserves the spirit of adda (casual hangouts) that defines Bengali culture. No Bengali is without cherished memories of time spent at a tea stall, making it a nostalgic cornerstone of social life. This deep cultural impact inspired me to create আসর ABHOR, a modern yet classic tong designed to connect people and their roots. Unlike traditional tongs, Ashor is portable, bringing the experience to you. We aim to keep the essence of adda alive wherever people gather to preserve Bengali heritage. Ashor is adorned with alpona, traditional hand-painted motifs symbolizing festivity and culture. Ashor also promotes sustainability by reusing tea leaves and serving tea in biodegradable clay cups. Ashor will host cozy concerts, book readings, traditional games, and more as it grows, modernizing the tong experience while preserving its soul.
