Project Description
A Tea Stall in North Bengal: The Story Of Champa Rani Dey
Tea is an incredible drink in the whole world. Tea creates stories. Tea creates relationships. Similarly, we wanted people to build relationships with our culture and tradition through tea. Similarly, we worked with the Barendra region. The tradition of this rural area is under threat today. The mud houses we see in the Barendra region are on the verge of disappearing in the near future. In the era of modernization, people are slowly moving to brick and stone walled houses. So we made our tea stall out of mud. Here, with the fictional character Champa Rani Dey, we have set up a tea shop in a mix of rural Alpana and mud house traditions. And we have chosen a house next to the Paharpur Buddhist Vihara as the site. Domestic and foreign tourists come here. Therefore, being able to see the reflection of domestic culture and tradition through drinking tea is a unique dimension for a tea shop. We want domestic tradition and culture to survive for ages through many such stories of cups of tea.
