Project Description

Concept

An ode to the nostalgia of an existing tea place. A space to PAUSE and reminisce; at a space reminiscent of the space itself.

Context

The project is imagined near the Polashi intersection, in front of Salimullah Muslim Hall of Dhaka University, near an existing tea drinking spot, between two big trees. It is a street with a modest number of footfalls from working class people and students of the nearby educational institutions. The space features an elevated pavement shaded by tall green trees by the vehicular street

Design Brief

The aim of the design is to elevate the existing tea drinking space, by accentuating the existing architectural features of the space. It is a semi-permanent stall for afternoon and evening tea. The project features arrangements that mimic the existing architectural elements of the site to respect the nostalgia of the space. The idea is to blend with the environment as much as possible. The stall consists of one main stall for the tea making, separate seating arrangement for customers, and a removable cart designed to fit into the stall without disturbing the street frontage. The stall panels are imagined to be 3D printed, assembled into semi-permanent street furniture that can be dismantled and repurposed to expand the customer capacity. The stall will have, upon assembly, its built-in waste collection system, a rainwater harvesting systern, a moderate amount of storage, and shaded seating for customers and stall-keepers.
